The Interactive Virtual Environment is used during the co-design phase of an urban project in the context of a focus group and aims to help citizens to express themselves in urban design participative workshops. Also, it aims to facilitate dialogue between citizens and professionals, and therefore ease citizens’ understanding and appropriation of the project.

The IVE is set up on a touchscreen device and is intuitively controlled with up to 10 figures. The software proposes three distinct, but linked, interfaces: A creation workspace where citizens can manipulate a virtual world in collaboration or by themselves, an explorational and expressional workspace where citizens can explore and choose predefined options. Lastly, the IVE offers statistics gathered during workshops and help them in decision-making which are presented in a cockpit information mode.
